Originally inspired by martial arts, CI helps us to rediscover our natural link to gravity, space and the physics of movement while dancing with another. In this invigorating practice our body reveals its inherent intelligence and our mind its malleability. With the energy of authenticity we'll deeply tune our senses as well as playfully improvise. In the Fundamentals Class we will touch on: Release of excess tension and 'over' reaction to cultivate power and grace - The physical mechanics of supporting, lifting, flying - Following the flow of momentum with a partner - Listening, improvising & composing in the moment - Dynamics include: resisting/releasing, leading/following, pushing/pulling, and stillness/flow. During the LAB we’ll take the principles of Contact Improvisation into action supported by silence, live and recorded music as well as the occasional simple score that brings a group focus to our practice.
