Instructors: Devon Dederich, Anne-Marie Bowery (see the Schedule page for information on meeting days/times.)
Starting on Friday, October 31, 2008, 3:30-5:45pm, Devon and Anne Bowery will be co-hosting an advanced practice at Clear Spring Studio. This Advanced Practice is open to advanced students of any tradition, though the sequences we will practice are from the Iyengar tradition. There are a few Fridays where there will not be a practice, due to either our travel schedules or special events preempting the use of the studio. You will need to check either Anne's blog or Clear Spring's home page to find cancellations, or you can email Anne or Devon. |
This is not a class, nor is it an open practice in the sense that you just come and do what you want in the studio. It is open in the sense that everyone is welcome and no registration or reservation is necessary. Just show up and do yoga every Friday afternoon. How does the practice work? Each week, Devon or Anne or another regular participant, will select a sequence from Pune or from a recent workshop or make a sequence, and we will all do that sequence together. We are there to help each other and to motivate each other to work hard and to keep a sense of humor while working on difficult poses. Anne will post the sequences on her blog in advance of practice, if we get the information in time. |
What does "advanced" mean? You should have a regular inversion practice, be able to do padmasana or be working toward it and be able to do Urdhva Dharusana and other unsupported backbends, and be interested in working on arm balances. You also need to know how to gauge your own strength and ability, and how not to hurt yourself in what can sometimes be an intense practice. There is no cost for the practice, though Devon would gratefully accept any donation you cared to make to defray the cost of reserving the studio space. Note also there will be no Advanced Practice sessions on the following Friday afternoons: Nov. 28; Dec. 26; Jan. 2; Jan. 12. |
