We Now Have a Pranayama Class
After putting the start time of this class up for discussion and voting (sort of), I have learned that you are evenly divided between the earliest start time (6am) and the latest one (7am). There was only one person in the middle. I also learned that those preferring the later time were mostly interested in not getting up too early in the morning, while those choosing the early time required it, in order to be home afterward to get children off to school or to be at work on time.
Necessity outweighs preference for snoozy time. Therefore: Class will be from 6am - 7am, every Monday, beginning January 4th.
I am sorry for those who prefer those slow-start mornings. May I console you by saying that pranayama and bearing witness to your mind is not exactly a rip-roaring, firehouse type of launch to the day. It is not like getting out of bed and running a few miles around the lake. It is more like getting up to sit by that lake, watch the moon, listen to the wind (or your breath), and to the distant dog barking.
On Monday January 4th at 6am, we will begin at the beginning. I hope to see you there.
How to prepare: Please, get up early enough to to to the bathroom, wash your face, eyes, nose, mouth and ears, to drink a cup of your preferred beverage, and to arrive a few minutes before class begins. Please also dress in loose and comfortable clothing so that you can be undisturbed in class. Everyone: no tight clothing in general, and especially no tight waistbands. Women: if possible, wear no bra, or only a very loose and soft one, so as not to constrict your rib cage and sternum. If the weather is chilly, bring warm socks as well. A handkerchief may come in handy from time to time, so bring that too.
For those with regular class cards, this will count as two-thirds of a regular class. Three pranayama classes equal two regular 1.5-hour classes. I will show you how to notate your class cards correctly.
Prices for this class are posted online. A walk-in class will be $12, and a set of 8 pranayama classes will cost $80. It is required that those attending pranayama classes have an established asana practice. It need not be at Clear Spring, but it must exist somewhere.
