  How did the rose
Ever open its heart
And give the world
All its beauty?

It felt the encouragement of light
Against its being,
Otherwise we all remain
Too frightened.

Devon's Trip
Galapagos Islands Andes

To view photos of Devon's trip to the Galapagos and the Andean highlands, wait till around June 29 and then go to this address on flickr.com and check out things she has seen on the Galapagos leg of her journey. Apparently the photos take a day or two to load on the flickr.com website, so be patient if you don't see them directly.

After July 8 or 9 you may see photos from her trip to the eastern slopes of the Andes.

Devon says, "I will share as best I can this wonderful journey. Be well, and come to class while I'm gone. The substitute teachers are wonderful! I picked the best ones!"

Tell your friends who are thinking of entering into this discipline. Let everyone know that they can begin one week late without losing out on any basic information. We work methodically and repeat everything, so the fundamentals are reinforced through the practice in class. Invite your friends! Contact Devon for more information and enrollment.

Clear Spring Goods

women's cotton tank
Clear Spring Goods has produced a series of t-shirts and tank tops with a timely message. The first and most central practice of yoga is non-harm, or ahimsa. Our shirts show original sayings on this universally important ethical practice from different spiritual and cultural traditions. The sayings are all well-known, and are shown in their original languages, from three of the great philosophical traditions of the world. The calligraphies are especially lovely, and we hope they inspire your friends to ask you their meaning and discuss the principles.

Sanskrit: Patanjali Yoga Sutra II.35: "All violence ceases in the presence of the one who practices non harm."
Greek: Plato Crito, 49d: "It is wrong to return harm with harm."
Tibetan: The Dalai Lama: "Your enemy is your best teacher."
The original statements are on the shirts in their original languages, Sanskrit, Greek, and Tibetan, and their calligraphies are especially lovely.
