A MESSAGE TO ALL OUR EXPERIENCED STUDENTS

 IYENGAR YOGA NEEDS YOUR HELP!

We are sponsoring a Junior Intermediate level teacher’s assessment on the weekend of SEPTEMBER 28-29, in about a month.  We need you to help us with your presence in this assessment by serving as students in short (50-minute) classes.  Each candidate will teach an abbreviated class to show the assessors their understanding of this method of teaching. They get to teach you, our generous local community of Iyengar students.

YOU, OUR VOLUNTEER STUDENTS:

You need to be familiar with all or most of the poses on our beginner syllabus, up to and including backbend shapes, headstand and shoulderstand.  Maybe a few inversion variations.  You do not have to be able to do all the intermediate poses on the syllabus.

You cannot be pregnant.  You can be menstruating.  You cannot have major physical problems, but you can have minor ones; the candidate who teaches you should know how to adjust or compensate for these in poses.  You may or may not also already know intermediate poses.  We need students who are not beginners to Iyengar Yoga, and who can follow instruction.

THE SCHEDULE ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY OCTOBER 20-21

Candidates appear for the first part of the examination on Friday October 19.  The teaching examination (the part where you come in) begins on Saturday morning and ends on Sunday midday.

We need as many as eight students per 50-minute class, with a short break between classes.  Any volunteer can offer his or her services for one or two consecutive classes, and again for another one or two classes another day.  Here is the schedule for assessing our 11 candidates:

Saturday October 20

8:00am
9:10am
10:30am
11:45am

(Break)
2:00pm
3:10pm
4:30pm
5:45pm

Sunday October 21

8:00am
9:10am
10:30am
11:45am

Again, each session is 50 minutes long, with a break in between sessions for the assessors to gather their notes and clear their thoughts.

We need as many as 50 late-beginner/early intermediate students to form the classes for these candidates. That’s a lot!  Again you can volunteer for two classes in a row, and only six classes total! That’s like a little workshop (with odd breaks) all Intermediate level poses, and for free!  With cookies!

You are supporting our efforts to foster high quality yoga teachers in the Iyengar method. Although we cannot pay you, we do offer some small compensation:  lots of tea and cookies and healthy snacks for everyone, topped with our endless gratitude for your support of our teaching and practice in the Iyengar method.
